#127: Guest Starring Matt Belknap (Never Not Funny)

Gentlemen,

We last talked a gorey Chris, to comedians backstage, a pornstar with new boobs, an actor/comic, a last comic standing, a podcast CEO, and some young comics.

Matt Belknap co-hosts/produces my favorite podcast, Never Not Funny, now in its tenth season.  He also runs the comedy record label, A Special Thing Records, and he used to work for Ron Howard (“Opie” before Anthony) as a film script reader.

On this podcast episode of The Gentlemen’s Club, Matt and I talk about my brother Jon Hamm, the comedy music and podcast businesses, and learning how to podcast even if you don’t have Matt’s amazing deep, deep voice.

Buy Me and Adam Carolla For Charity

Also includes people like Jon Hamm, Lisa Loeb, Jimmy Pardo, Paul Gilmartin, Jesse Thorn and more!

My main man Rick DeMint over at Portroids covered this year’s Pardcast-a-thon.  Proceeds of which are now on electronic-Bay.  One auction features autographed Polaroids, taken backstage, from Adam Carolla, Bil Dwyer, Eliot Hochberg, and yours truly.  (“Yours truly” is a jerky way to say “me.”  So, me.)

You have eight days to bid your ass off for charity

Give Chris Gore Money, Get Fetish Dolls

This week’s podcast guest, Chris Gore, needs your money for a fun, sexy project of his.  So donate!  The window to do so closes later this week.  “Think of it as Robot Chicken with sex.”

  • FetishVIL is a satirical animated comedy series made for adults that unfolds like an episodic TV series… but the story is told using puppet animation. FetishVIL will be funny, surprisingly sexy and strangely moving. The characters will come to life using the voice talents of comedians and some of the hottest girls on Twitter. Each episode will be just a few minutes in length, with the entire first season’s story lasting around 30 minutes.

Me vs. Terrible Friends

calebbacon:

The fine folks at the Terrible Friends Podcast had me on as a guest.  In this episode, we discussed plenty of immature/unethical/immoral/homicidal topics.  I sort of loved it.  So, like most of my audio offerings, if you are offended by language, please don’t ever ever listen.  (If you only want to hear :52 seconds of this clip check out the video teaser.)

New To The Show? Start Here! FAQ!

Hello, Gentlemen!  My name is Caleb Bacon and I’m a Los Angeles-based writer and host of weekly comedy podcast, The Gentlemen’s Club. This is a podcast where I have one-on-one interviews (most of the time) with people men find interesting.  And if you’re not sure where to start…

  • So who do men find interesting?  Comedians, XXX pornstars, and media personalities (TV, radio, Internet.)
  • What are the best pornstar episodes?  I’m partial to both of Ashlynn Leigh’s episodes (#94 & #116).  She’s a self-admitted “freak” and is really sweet at the same time.  (And yes, she once lost a golfball up her butt.)  More pornstar episodes are here.
  • What are the best of the more serious interviews?  Some of the interviews — while light-hearted — aren’t as LOL-able.  Try: Shira Lazar (#115), Mike Schimdt (#101).
  • Do you have a list of every episode so that I can pick for myself?  Yup
  • Does iTunes like the show?  They’ve named the show to the What’s Hot in Comedy list along with your Marons, Carollas, Pardos, Thorns, and Rogans of the world.   (Scoreboard.)

*** Frequently Asked Questions ***

  • Have you ever cornered Drew Brees and made him take a photo with you?  Pretty much.
  • How can I help the show?  I don’t want your money but feel free to pimp out your favorite episodes.  Tell your friends and tell your enemies!  Or leave some positive feedback on iTunes.
  • What’s the most common email you receive? “Do you have sex with the pornstars you interview?”  Look, Gentlemen, I have morals and am a man of principle.  So, of course, the answer is no.  (That, and they’ve all turned me down!)
  • Do you have a personal Twitter account too?  Yes, I am @thecalebbacon.  (It’s my stronger Twitter page.)
    • Can I advertise on your show?  Nope.
    • Can I send you free stuff?  Sure.  Write me.
    • How did the show start?  In 2009, fellow LAist writer, Tim Hammer said “I’m thinking about starting a podcast.”  I said, “I’m in.”  (I’m not sure if he was asking me to start one with him but it’s seemed to work out.)
    • What happened to original co-host Tim Hammer?  He moved to Connecticut.  His last episode was #50.  We are still very much friends.  In fact, I’m thinking about him right now.
    • Where did some of the old episodes go?  They’re dead to you/me.  (For reasons like: they no longer cut the mustard, or the audio quality’s not up to snuff.)
    • Do you guest on other podcasts?  Yes
    • Are there any Gentlemen’s Club videos?  Yes
    • What’s the most polarizing episode?  Scott Aukerman from Comedy Bang Bang.  Scott was doing a bit the whole show and many people commented that he was being “a dick.”  He was just goofin’.
    • Who made the theme music?  Paul Nolan from Liverpool, England.  He’s amazing.  He’s for hire.
    • Who is that sexy female voice?  Amanda Wallace (she’s very cute too.)

#125: A Random Episode With Funny Friends

    Gentlemen,

We last talked to a pornstar with new boobs, an actor/comic, a last comic standing, a podcast CEO, some young comics, a Belgian pornstar, and a canceled comic.

Two episodes I sat down with comic Steve Byrne and had a real fun chat.

In this half-episode I head to the attic of the Improv comedy club in West Hollywood to chat with Steve, Owen Benjamin and Gareth Reynolds before their stand-up show.

It was a goofy, fun time!
